Fomentar la Innovación – Encourage Innovation

19 Dec

Modern corporations are actively seeking to encourage and foment innovation as part of their overall business strategies and as a way of highlighting the competitive advantage they bring to the market.

The logic is very simple, innovate and grow, innovate and become different and more competitive than the rest.  Why is it so difficult for some of the major firms to adopt an innovative policy as part of their strategic plan?

Mohnen (, 2008) points to the fact that investment in Research and Development by firms needs to be encouraged by government in the form of Tax incentives.

In Chile, its dependence on resource-driven industries skews research and development efforts towards the mining industry, which means that  other significant  industries such as the digital and technological industries in Chile are not innovating at the pace of other OECD countries.

It would be interesting to hear from industries or persons involved in innovative efforts in Chile and how they or their companies are trying to change this trend.

The situation is fairly similar in Australia Ivan. The extraction industry is huge here too. We’re doing some research on how innovation works within these sorts of firms, which is interesting. There has been a fair bit of government investment in encouraging innovation in more tech-oriented industries, but so far, the returns have been only so-so. I’m not sure what the best solution is!

looking forward to learning more from you about innovation in Chile and South America. I am beginning to read about DESIGN THINKING as it relates to business models and operations today not DESIGN THINKING as I was taught and practiced as an architect, interior designer, graphics/signage designer for about 20 years before I began my career as a creative thinking consultant

Thanks for your contributions Robert and Tim. The truth is that we are all about investigating different aspects of innovation in the country of Chile and possibly beyond. By saying that I mean that we would like to explore how Chile and its innovators and entrepreneurs can someday have a mention in the international community as do countries like malaysia, who have similar economic development, but far superior investment in R&D.

Thanks Robert, it would be great to collaborate with the orakul; as ivan Silva told, The Orakul is a platform where innovators in Chile can share their experiencie; the idea is to offer this platform to external experiencies (abroad) wich could be helpful for our country; always collaboration is good…thank for your enthusism.

    ivan collado,
